You can encrypt HiDrive folders on your Windows PC for even more data security. We'll show you how to do it in this article.
By encrypting HiDrive directories, you help ensure that all files within an encrypted folder on your Windows PC are password-protected and access is only possible after entering the correct key and password. Each user can use and set up encryption individually on their Windows PC.
Encrypted files can only be accessed and used with the HiDrive software and HiDrive mobile app.
- A Windows computer
- You have installed the HiDrive software
- You are logged in to HiDrive
Setting the password and creating a key:
The key and password serve as your login details to access the encrypted directories on your Windows PC. You need to install the HiDrive software on your PC. If you have not already done so, download and install it.
- Open the HiDrive program.
- Click Settings.
- Select the Encryption tab.
- Click Create New Key.
- Enter a password under Password and repeat it again under Repeat password.
If you lose or delete the key, your access to all files in the encrypted folder will be irretrievably lost, so make a note of your details and keep them safe.
For your security, a copy of your key and password will automatically be created on your Windows PC. You can see the storage location under the entry Save key copy as. If you want to create another storage location, overwrite the entry and accept it by clicking on Change. If you do not want an automatic key copy, remove the check mark Save Key As.
- Then create your key by clicking Create Key. The creation itself takes place automatically, so you do not have to make any other entries.
You have now successfully created an encrypted HiDrive directory.
