Using HiDrive with CIFS/SMB (Mapped as a Network Drive)

With the SMB protocol, you can directly connect to your HiDrive using the file manager of your operating system. SMB is the standard for all Windows systems and is being supported by many other systems as well.

  • HiDrive Pro package or other HiDrive package in combination with the Professional Protocols add-on
  • Administrator permissions in HiDrive or administrator privileges granted by another HiDrive administrator

To activate CIFS/SMB, proceed as follows:

  • If not already done, log in to your HiDrive account.
  • In the menu bar, select Settings > Account > Access Rights and Protocols.
  • Click on the pen icon.
  • Activate the Windows Drive (CIFS/SMB) checkbox.
  • Complete your changes by clicking Save.

CISF/SMB Using Windows 10

To set up HiDrive in Windows 10, proceed as follows:

  • Open Windows Explorer.
  • Click on This PC.
  • In the ribbon command bar, click on Connect to Network Drive, a window will open.
  • Select a drive letter from the dropdown menu.
  • Type the address \\\root into the Folder field.
  • Complete your settings by clicking on Finish.
  • Enter your HiDrive user name and the corresponding password.
  • HiDrive will now be available under the designated drive letter and can be used the same way as a normal windows drive.

Under Windows 10, you can only authenticate one user per server when using the CISFS/SMB protocol. However, you can connect multiple servers by changing the server address you enter into the field Folder. For this purpose, you may enter a set of random characters before the path name, for example \\\root.

CISF/SMB and HiDrive Using a Mac

To set up HiDrive with SMB/CIFS using a mac, proceed as follows:

  • Go to Finder.
  • Go to Connect to Server.
  • Enter the server address smb://
  • Complete your changes by clicking on Connect.
  • Enter your HiDrive user name and password.
  • Activate the checkbox Save Password in Keychain as not activating this feature may result in error messages.
  • Complete your entry by clicking on Connect.

CIFS/SMB Using Linux (Ubuntu)

To connect HiDrive using the default desktop under Ubuntu, version 17.10 and later, proceed as follows:

  • Open Gnome Files.
  • Select Connect to Server.
  • Enter the server address smb://
  • Complete the entry by clicking on Connect.
  • Select Registered User.
  • Enter your HiDrive username and password.
  • Check Remember Forever.
  • Finish by clicking on Connect.
