This article will show you how to prepare your domain with your current provider/registrar for a transfer to 1&1 IONOS and how to access your authorisation code. You will need this authorisation code later to approve (authorise) the domain transfer on 1&1 IONOS's end.
Depending on the domain extension (.com, .london, etc.), different requirements must be met before you can access the authorisation code and transfer your domain to 1&1 IONOS. Click here for an overview of all prerequisites for a successful domain transfer.
Is your domain registered with another provider?
If your domain is already registered with another provider, you can prepare the domain transfer as follows:
- Check that the requirements are met: Requirements for a Successful Domain Transfer
- Unlock your domain by disabling the domain transfer lock and private registration (WHOIS Privacy).
- Request your authorisation code, which you will need later to authorise the transfer on 1&1 IONOS's end.
- Exception for .uk domains: Start the domain transfer with 1&1 IONOS and then change the registrar tag (IPS tag) with your current provider to 1AND1.
You can find detailed assistance and instructions on these topics from the customer support or documentation provided by your current provider.
If you cannot find suitable instructions among your current provider's documentation, please let us know. We will gladly create a guide for you.
