In Windows, certain characters are reserved for internal/system purposes. If these characters are used in a HiDrive file or folder name, you will get error messages when trying to synchronise these objects with a Windows system. This article explains how to customise these characters in HiDrive.

Please Note

Only items with the invalid characters are not synchronised. For all other files and folders, synchronisation is performed as desired.

Reserved Windows Characters

The following characters must not be used in file or folder names in Windows:

< > : “ / \ | ? *

Renaming HiDrive Files/Folders

To successfully download or sync files/folders with invalid characters, simply rename them beforehand:

  • Open the HiDrive web app.
  • Navigate via the menu items Personal or Shared on the left side to the object that contains an unsupported character.
  • Click with the right mouse button on the object. A context menu opens.
  • Select Rename.
  • Enter the new name and finish your entry with Enter/Return.
