Transferring a Contract from One Account to Another

IONOS customers can transfer the ownership and contents of an active contract from one IONOS account to another, including:

  • Domains
  • Web hosting packages
  • Website data, including web page contents and databases
  • Email accounts and their data
  • SSL certificates
  • Additional features (e.g. Data backup and restore, PHP Extended Support, Domain Guard, CDN, DNS Pro, ect.)

Conditions

  • Both the transferring and receiving account holder must agree to the transfer.
  • The receiver becomes the legal owner of the contract and is liable for all charges from the date of completion.
  • The accounts must both use the same payment type for billing reasons (e.g. both use credit card as the payment type).
  • There is no service downtime, but the process may take up to 48 hours once initiated.
  • Neither the transferring nor receiving accounts must have any outstanding debt during the transfer process.

Starting a Contract Transfer

First, prepare for the transfer by backing up any critical data, exchanging email and/or database passwords. deleting personal or proprietary data which is to be excluded from the transfer, and checking that both accounts use the same payment type (e.g. both use Paypal) or updating the payment method on one account to match the type used on the other before starting your request.

Both parties must send an email to process@ionos.co.uk to confirm the agreement to transfer.

From the current contract owner, please send an email from the address linked to your account stating:

  • The Contract ID of the package to be transferred
  • The IONOS account number of the new owner
  • Confirmation of the contract transfer date

From the new contract owner, please send an email from the address linked to your account stating:

  • The Contract ID of the package to be transferred to you
  • Confirmation that you agree to the transfer and our Terms and Conditions, including all obligations relating to the transferred contract

Additional Information

The parties should discuss the conditions of the transfer beforehand to ensure a smooth transition and minimise the risk of disruption.

We will review your request to determine if the contract is transferrable and if the conditions above are met. If the contract isn’t transferable or there is a problem otherwise, we will email or call to discuss this with you.

Once the transfer process is complete, both parties will receive a final email confirmation.
