To access vSphere/NSX-T, you must install the OpenVPN client software and establish a VPN connection. The OpenVPN client software is an open source software allowing you to establish a VPN connection that is protected by SSL.

This article explains how to install and configure the OpenVPN client software on your local computer.

Requirements
  • You have administrator rights. 

  • You have logged in to your local PC.

Note

In order to use OpenVPN, you must enable the following ports in your router and firewall:

Port        Protocol

1194        UDP

443          TCP

Alternatively, OpenVPN can be used with port 1194 TCP. In this case, this port has to be enabled as well. ll. 

  • Download the OpenVPN software. This is offered as a 32-bit and a 64-bit version.

  • To start the installation, double-click the installation file. 

  • Click Next.

  • To accept the license terms, click I Agree.

  • Click Next.

  • Optional: Enter the following destination folder: C:/Program Files/OpenVPN

  • Click Install.

  • Click Next.

  • Click Finish.

Download configuration file

To configure OpenVPN, you need the *.ovpn file. To download this file, please proceed as follows:

  • Open the Cloud Panel.

  • To download the configuration file, click VPN in the Private Cloud section.

    The configuration file will be downloaded.

Configure OpenVPN

To configure OpenVPN, please proceed as follows:

  • Extract the zip file into the desired folder.

  • Press the Windows key.

  • Click OpenVPN GUI.

  • Click the up arrow on the right side of the taskbar.

  • Click with the right mouse button on the OpenVPN symbol.

  • Click on Import File.

  • Open the directory where you have unpacked the ZIP file.

  • Select the configuration file with the file extension *.ovpn.

  • Click Open.

  • The configuration file will be imported.

  • Click OK.
