Downloading the SSL (Public Key) and Intermediate Certificates

For User-Managed SSL Certificates

In this article, we show you how to download an SSL certificate - and if required the Intermediate certificate - as a .cert file.

The SSL certificate contains the digital signature and public key. It is required for setting up SSL encryption on a server.

Requirement
  • The certificate has already been set up.
Please Note

This function is not required or available in Webhosting packages because the certificate is automatically installed on the webspace.

To download your SSL Certificate (and optionally the Intermediate Certificate):

  • Log in to 1&1 IONOS and select the Domains & SSL tile.

  • Click on SSL certificates in the navigation bar on the right.

  • Click on the domain for which you want to download the certificate. The Certificate Settings will be displayed.

  • Click on Download in the Advanced Settings section.

  • You will receive a file with the extension .cer, which you can save on your computer.

  • Optional: If it is required for the installation on your server, you can also download the Intermediate Certificate in the Advanced Settings section.
Please Note

Your personal Private Key is not stored in the domain - or your 1&1 IONOS account - for security reasons. If you are no longer in possession of it, you must have the certificate reissued to get a new Private Key.
