IONOS and Nextcloud launch sovereign office alternative
IONOS and Nextcloud unveil IONOS Nextcloud Workspace, the sovereign, GDPR-compliant hub for collaboration, office tools, and AI
London, March 18, 2026
IONOS, Europe’s leading digitalisation partner and trusted cloud enabler, together with Nextcloud, the world’s most widely adopted privacy-compliant collaboration platform, today announced the launch of IONOS Nextcloud Workspace
The platform is a European alternative to offerings such as Microsoft 365 that meet the highest standards of data protection, security and digital sovereignty. Nextcloud’s office and collaboration platform is operated on IONOS’s certified sovereign cloud infrastructure in German data centres.
Modular workspace for confident collaboration
IONOS Nextcloud Workspace is based on Nextcloud’s proven open-source technology and is aimed in particular at public institutions, medium-sized companies, and organisations with high requirements for data protection and digital sovereignty.
The platform combines key functions such as file storage, email and calendar services, video conferencing and an intelligent AI assistant configured with the IONOS AI Model Hub in a user-friendly solution. The AI assistant makes everyday work easier by automating recurring tasks, translating texts, creating images and enabling efficient and intuitive use with its chat function. The applications can be used flexibly, either individually or as part of a harmoniously integrated digital workplace. The software enables a smooth transition from existing systems to a comprehensive working environment. It is GDPR-compliant, transparent, and independent of US hyperscalers.
“With IONOS Nextcloud Workspace, we are offering for the first time a truly sovereign collaboration and office solution for large companies and organisations that value digital self-determination and the highest security standards,” says Achim Weiß, CEO of IONOS.
“Our partnership with IONOS shows that digital sovereignty and user-friendliness are not mutually exclusive,” explains Frank Karlitschek, CEO of Nextcloud. “Here, two German companies are proving that sovereign alternatives to cloud offerings from the US or China are not only possible, but already a reality.”
IONOS Nextcloud Workspace is available now. To mark the launch, IONOS is offering the package with 25 users for just £1 per user per month* for the first three months.
Additional modules and services will follow in the coming months, including advanced AI features for document editing and analysis, an enterprise-level cloud-based virus scanner (Verdict as a Service) from G-Data, and integration with Data Centre Designer, the graphical user interface for the IONOS Cloud.
