Valid for HiDrive.

Boxcryptor is software that makes it possible to encrypt files and folders on cloud storage services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive and others. When using Boxcryptor with HiDrive, you may encounter problems if you use file names with more than 70 characters. This article explains how you can still use longer file names.

Deactivating file name encryption

If you use file names with more than 70 characters, you must deactivate Boxcryptor's file name encryption:

  • Start Boxcryptor.
  • Open the Security tab in the Settings menu.
  • Deactivate Enable file name encryption.

Alternative to the use of Boxcryptor

Alternatively, you can use end-to-end encryption from HiDrive to encrypt your data. This feature is available in the HiDrive Pro plan and can be purchased additionally in other plans.
