This article explains what a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) is, and why it is mandatory if you process personal data on IONOS servers.

Note

Since July 19 2022, the agreement on data processing has been part of the IONOS GTC. No separate agreement is therefore necessary for new contracts from this date.

Background to the DPA

According to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), every controller that has personal data processed on its behalf must complete a Data Processing Agreement (DPA). As a customer of IONOS, you may store personal data on the IONOS servers. As soon as you store or process personal data on IONOS systems, you must legally secure this in accordance with Art. 28 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

For this reason, IONOS offers you the option of complete a Data Processing Agreement (DPA). The completion of this agreement is at no additional cost to you. With this agreement, you can legally confirm the security of the data on the servers of IONOS to your customers.

Finalise DPA

  • Log in to your IONOS account.
  • In the title bar, click on Menu > My account > Tile: Data protection & privacy notice .
  • Click on the Additional information link in the Contract for Data Processing Agreement (DPA) tile.

The DPA can be completed online and is only required for older contracts for which the DPA was not yet part of the GTC.
