Transferring Files via FTPS with WinSCP

For 1&1 IONOS Windows hosting packages

Transfer files, e.g. your homepage, to the webspace of your 1&1 IONOS hosting package using WinSCP.

By uploading or downloading files, you can update elements of your website, for example HTML files, images etc. In Windows hosting, secure FTPS (FTP over SSL) is used for transmission.

Step 1

Start WinSCP.

Step 2

Select your saved FTP connection data or enter it manually. Then click on Login.

Name Your entry
Transfer protocol FTP
Encryption TLS/SSL Explicit Encryption or TLS/SSL Implicit Encryption
computer name The 1&1 IONOS subdomain can be viewed in the 1&1 IONOS
Port number 21
User name Your FTPS user name
Password Your FTPS password
Step 3

Wait until the program has established the connection.

The folder structure of your webspace is displayed in the right hand window. Select a folder to which you want to move the file. Drag the file from the left hand to the right hand window.

The file will be transferred to your webspace.

If you want to download files from your webspace to your computer, simply carry out the steps in reverse order. Drag files from the right hand window to the left hand window to edit them locally.

Please note: Ensure that you set the passive mode in the FTP connection data in the server manager. On the tab Transfer settings the number of simultaneous connections should be limited to a maximum of four.
