Migrated Cloud Servers: Creating block storage
Please use the “Print” function at the bottom of the page to create a PDF.
Valid for migrated Cloud Servers which are managed in the Cloud Panel.
This article explains how to create a block storage for your migrated Cloud Server in the Cloud Panel.
Block storages provide additional storage space that you can use with a migrated Cloud Server. Each block storage consists of an SSD, the size of which you can specify individually. As block storages are treated as individual volumes, they are suitable for storing files, databases, or log files, for example. To create a block storage, complete the following:
- Log in to your IONOS account.
Click on the Servers & Cloud tile. If you have multiple server contracts, select the desired contract.
- In the Cloud Panel, click on Infrastructure > Block Storage in the navigation bar on the left.
- Click on Create. The Create Block Storage area opens.
- Enter the desired name for the block storage.
- Enter the desired size in the Size (GB) field.
- Select the server which the block storage is to be assigned.
- Select the desired data centre.
Note
Block storages must be set up separately for each data centre. Example: If you have set up a Cloud Server in a data centre in the USA, you can only assign block storages to this server that are hosted in the same data centre.
Click on Create.
The block storage is created and displayed in the overview.
Further information
To use the block storage, you must also adjust the disk configuration in your server's operating system. How to do this is explained in the following articles:
