Valid for Linux VPS and migrated Cloud Servers that are managed in the Cloud Panel.

In this article, you will learn how to delete a Plesk license key on a VPS or a migrated Cloud Server.

Please Note

  • If you delete the license key, this can not be undone. If you need a license key again at a later date, you can generate a new license key in the Cloud Panel.
  • Plesk will no longer function properly after deleting the Plesk license key.
  • Back up your data before deleting your license keys so you can restore them in case of loss. You can create images of your server or use our Cloud Backup product to create backups. For step-by-step instructions, see the following articles:

Possible risks when deleting your Plesk license key

If you have no experience in server administration, deleting the Plesk license key can have long-term effects on the administration and security of your server. We recommend that you consider retaining the license key. Consider the following potential risks:

  • Plesk functionality: without a valid license key, many key features of Plesk, including domain management, email, databases and security settings may no longer be accessible or function properly.
  • Loss of access: You may lose access to the Plesk interface, preventing you from managing the server or troubleshooting problems. To perform administrative tasks (configuration changes, updates, certificate management or creation of new services) on a Linux server, you must perform them via SSH.
  • Security vulnerabilities: Plesk requires a valid license to automatically apply updates and security patches. Without such a license, your server is more susceptible to security risks and attacks.
  • Data loss: Incorrect operation of Plesk can lead to data loss, especially if you have not made a backup copy recently. Please note that the Plesk backup function may no longer be available and automatic backups will no longer be performed.
