You can effectively secure your IONOS account with two-factor authentication (2FA). Access is only possible after entering two different login credentials. This article explains how to use your IONOS Mobile App for this.

Notes

  • The Help Centre article "Using an authenticator app (TOTP) for two-factor authentication" explains how to perform two-factor authentication with an authenticator app (TOTP). Both types of confirmation (TOTP / IONOS Mobile App) can be used in parallel.

  • Two-factor authentication with the IONOS Mobile App can only be used to secure your IONOS account.

Set up the IONOS Mobile App

  • Log in to your IONOS account.
  • Click on Menu > My account in the title bar.
  • Click on Login & account security.
  • Click on the Configure two-factor authentication link next to Two-factor authentication.
  • Click on the Setup with IONOS app link in the IONOS App tile.
  • Go through the activation process and a 16-digit recovery code will be displayed at the end of the activation. Keep this code in a safe place. You can find out more about this in the next section Using the recovery code.
  • Install the IONOS Mobile App on your Android or iOS smartphone.
  • Log in to the IONOS Mobile App with your IONOS account data.
  • Enable the app's two-factor authentication dialog. If you have not received a notification, you can request it again via your IONOS account.

Use recovery code

Caution

Store the recovery code just as sensitively as all other access data, and do not share it with third parties.

At the end of the activation of your IONOS Mobile App in the IONOS account, a 16-digit recovery code is displayed.

This recovery code resets the two-factor authentication, e.g. if you have lost the corresponding end device with the authenticator app. Please note that the recovery code can only be used once.

Confirmation dialog in the IONOS Mobile App is not displayed

Activate the notifications for the IONOS Mobile App in the system settings of your smartphone. Alternatively, open the app to display the confirmation dialog. Please note that you must have an active internet connection to use the app.
