Installing IONOS GPT as a Progressive Web App (PWA)

As an alternative to using IONOS GPT in your browser, you can install it as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on your computer or mobile device. There is no standard, native app.

The following sections explain what a PWA is and what advantages it offers over both a standard app and using IONOS GPT in a browser. They also describe how to install IONOS GPT as a PWA on your device.

What is a Progressive Web App (PWA)?

A Progressive Web App (PWA) is a type of web application that offers an app-like experience directly in your browser. PWAs are built using standard web technologies but behave like native applications. Once installed, they can be launched from your device just like any other app, without needing to be downloaded from an app store. They combine the best of the web and the mobile world, offering:

App-like interface: Looks and feels like an app, but runs in the browser or as a standalone application.
Faster loading times: Benefit from faster loading times thanks to caching and intelligent design.
No app store required: You can install the application directly via your browser, thereby bypassing the restrictions and updates imposed by app stores.

Installation on the computer

You can install IONOS GPT as a PWA in just a few clicks, using the relevant function in your browser. Below you will find instructions for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Apple Safari (Mac).

Google Chrome

Open IONOS GPT in Google Chrome.
Click on the three-dot menu in the top right-hand corner.
In the menu, go to Cast, save, and share and, in the submenu that opens, click on Install IONOS GPT….

Confirm the installation in the dialog box that appears.

IONOS GPT is now installed as a PWA. Once the installation is complete, the icon will appear on your desktop or in your applications list.

Microsoft Edge

Open IONOS GPT in Microsoft Edge.
Click on the three-dot menu (Settings and more) in the top right-hand corner.
Go to More tools > Apps > Install IONOS GPT .

Click on Install.

IONOS GPT is now installed as a PWA. Once the installation is complete, the icon will appear on your desktop or in your applications list.

Apple Safari (Mac)

Open IONOS GPT in Safari.
In the Safari menu bar, click on File > Add to Dock.
Type the name you want to use, then click on Add.

IONOS GPT is now installed as a Progressive Web App. It appears as a standalone app in the Dock, in Launchpad, and in the Applications folder in your user directory.

Installation on a mobile device

Android (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Samsung Internet)

Open IONOS GPT in your mobile browser.
Tap the three-dot menu, then tap the install option. The wording varies by browser: Chrome offers Install and create shortcut or Add to home screen, and Firefox offers Install.
Confirm the name and tap Add. An app icon will appear on your home screen.

iPhone / iPad (Safari, Chrome)

Open IONOS GPT in your browser.
Tap the Share button. On an iPhone you may need to tap the three-dot menu first; on an iPad the Share button is in the toolbar.

Scroll down the list of options and tap Add to Home Screen. If it is not there, scroll to the bottom, tap Edit Actions, then add it.
In Safari, turn on Open as Web App.

Adjust the name if necessary and tap Add.

IONOS GPT is now installed as a PWA and the app icon is added to your home screen.

Yes. In the IONOS GPT PWA, click on the three-dot menu in the top right corner, choose App settings, and then click on Uninstall.
