Correcting an invalid authorisation code for an incoming domain transfer
Please use the “Print” function at the bottom of the page to create a PDF.
If you want to transfer a domain to IONOS and the authorisation code (Auth Code) you entered was incorrect, the transfer will be paused. In this case, you will see the error message Invalid authorisation code in the domain overview.
You can enter the correct code directly in your IONOS account at any time to initiate the domain transfer again.
Requirement
You have received the correct authorisation code from your previous provider.
Enter the correct auth code
- Log in to your IONOS account.
- Click on Menu > Domains & SSL in the title bar. The domain overview opens.
- Search for the relevant domain in the list. This is marked in the STATUS column with the red note Invalid authorisation code.
If this is your first domain on the account, you will immediately be prompted with the Invalid authorisation code screen. - Click on the link Re-enter authorisation code directly below this note. A new window opens.
- Enter the valid authorisation code in the text field. Pay attention to the exact spelling.
- Click on Save.
The domain transfer will now be retried with the corrected authorisation code.
Alternative: Cancel domain transfer
If you do not wish to continue the domain transfer to IONOS, or are unable to obtain the correct code, you can cancel the process.
- Open the domain overview as described above.
Open the detailed view of the domain concerned. To do this, either click directly on the domain name or click on the actions icon (the three vertical dots) in the domain line and select Show Details.
If this is your only domain on the account, the domain's detailed view will automatically be shown. On the details page, you will see the Transfer Status section.
- Click on the red Cancel transfer link at the bottom right.
- Confirm the cancellation.
