Valid for Web Hosting, ASP.NET Hosting (Windows Hosting), and Managed Servers.

To establish a connection to your webspace with an FTP program, you need the access data for your FTP account and the IONOS server data. This article shows you where to find this information in your IONOS account, and how it is structured.

How to find your connection data

The quickest way to view all the necessary data is via your IONOS account:

  • Log in to your IONOS account.
  • Click on Menu > Hosting in the title bar. If you have several hosting contracts, select the desired contract.

  • Click on Manage in the SFTP & SSH tile (or FTPS for Windows Web Hosting). An overview of your FTP accounts opens.
  • Click on the user name of the desired account. You will now see a detail page with all the connection data for your FTP program.

An overview of the connection details

When you set up your FTP program (e.g. FileZilla or Cyberduck), the following information is usually requested:

1. Your login data

This data is individual for each of your created FTP accounts.

Specification Your input
User name Your personal FTP username. It begins with one or more letters followed by several digits. For example: u12345678.
Password The password that you defined yourself when setting up this particular FTP user.
2. The server data

The server data to be entered depends on the type of hosting package you are using.

Setting Webhosting (Linux) & Managed Server ASP.NET Hosting (Windows Webhosting)
Server/Host Your personal server address that is displayed in the IONOS account (e.g. access123456789.webspace-data.io). Your personal server address that is displayed in the IONOS account (e.g. access123456789.webspace-data.io).
Protocol SFTP FTP over TLS (FTPS)
Port 2221 (explicit FTP over TLS) or 990 (implicit FTP over TLS)

Tip on encryption (only for Windows Web Hosting)

Since Windows Hosting uses FTPS, you must explicitly select the desired encryption protocol from a menu in many FTP programs (such as FileZilla or Cyberduck):

  • For port 21, select Require explicit FTP over TLS (also known as FTPES ).
  • For port 990, select Implicit FTP over TLS.

Forgotten your password?

If you have misplaced the password to one of your FTP accounts, you can simply set a new password in your IONOS account.
