Assigning block storage to another server
Please use the “Print” function at the bottom of the page to create a PDF.
Valid for Cloud Servers, migrated Cloud Servers, and VPS+.
You can assign a block storage volume to a different server at any time. Please note that, after assigning the block storage, you may need to adjust the disk configuration within your operating system. Here is how to assign a block storage volume to a different server:
Requirement
You have not combined the block storage with a boot partition into a single drive.
Note
If you have combined the boot partition and the block storage into one volume, and assign the block storage to another Cloud Server, inconsistencies may occur in the file system, meaning that the relevant server may no longer be accessible.
- Log in to your IONOS account.
Click on Menu > Servers & Cloud in the title bar.
Optional: If you have multiple server contracts, select the desired contract.
Click on Infrastructure > Block Storage in the navigation bar on the left.
Select the desired block storage.
Click on the pencil icon in the Assigned to: line. A window opens.
In the window, select the server to which the block storage is to be assigned.
Click on Save changes.
The change is then displayed in the Cloud Panel.
