This article explains why SSL certificates cannot be installed directly on load balancers.
To utilise SSL certificates, you must install them on the servers assigned to the load balancer. Once the SSL certificates are installed, encrypted requests are forwarded from the load balancer to the assigned servers via SSL passthrough. The requests are then decrypted on the servers.
Note
If you forward SSL-encrypted requests to the server using SSL passthrough, the load balancer cannot capture the source IPs of the requests in the log files.
