VMware Tools for Cloud Servers

For Cloud Server

The VMware Tools are programs and drivers that are needed for the smooth operation of the Cloud Server.

VMware tools are installed directly on the guest operating system. Not only do they improve performance, they also provide additional functionality that simplifies virtual machine (VM) administration.

Please Note:

VMWare Tools are pre-installed in our standard images. If the tools are missing (after an ISO installation, for example) they can be installed using the DVD drive function.

Determine Installed Version

Linux: establish an SSH connection to your Cloud Server. Then enter the following command in the terminal window:

vmware-toolbox-cmd -v
9.4.0.25793 (build-1280544)
  • Windows: Control Panel > Open Programs and Features, click VMware Tools, and see the version below.

Are VMware Tools running?

Linux: Establish an SSH connection to your Cloud Server. Then, enter the following command in the terminal window:

status vmware-tools
vmware-tools start/running
  • Windows: In the task manager, check whether the vmtoolsd.exe (VMware Tools Core Service) process is running.
