What is the BFSG?

  • The BFSG fefines rules to ensure that certain products and services are accessible to consumers.
  • It has been in effect since June 28, 2025.
  • The BFSG is based on the EU directive "European Accessibility Act" (EAA). Germany has transposed the EAA into national law with the BFSG.
  • The law only defines objectives and required functionalities. It does not specify exactly how they are to be implemented.
  • The reference for accessibility is the European standard for digital accessibility and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) in version 2.1.
  • The BFSG applies exclusively to companies that operate in Germany or offer digital products and services in Germany. Exceptions are regulated by law.
