IONOS expands product range with new Ampere® Altra® servers with energy-efficient ARM technology
With the Ampere® Altra® Arm servers, IONOS is expanding its portfolio with an additional, innovative CPU architecture.
London, June 9, 2025.
With Ampere® Altra® ARM-based servers, IONOS, Europe’s leading digitalisation partner and reliable cloud enabler, is expanding its portfolio with an innovative CPU architecture, offering businesses high performance with low energy consumption. The servers are available at IONOS’ data centres in Worcester and Berlin.
Due to their architecture, Ampere ARM-based servers offer high performance and consume little energy compared to x86 chips, making them a sustainable CPU option for busy web servers, application servers for demanding tasks, microservices, AI solutions or big data analyses.
“The rapid development of artificial intelligence holds enormous potential but also places high demands on IT infrastructure. With the Ampere Altra CPUs, we are offering businesses a sustainable, energy-efficient and scalable solution that is perfectly tailored to modern workloads in the fields of AI and big data,” says Patrick Schaudel, SVP Products, IONOS.
“Ampere is committed to providing technologies that allow businesses to scale effectively and responsibly,” said Jeff Wittich, Chief Product Officer at Ampere. “With the availability of Ampere-based servers from IONOS, we are bringing much-needed energy efficient cloud solutions tailored to the evolving needs of European businesses.”
RISC technology added to the portfolio
While the CPUs offered by Intel and AMD to date are based on CISC (Complex Instruction Set Computing) technology, ARM-based CPUs are based on RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computing) technology. They use single-threaded cores, which increases the performance and speed of instruction execution compared to CISC, and are designed to execute fewer, simple and frequently used instructions efficiently.
Thanks to their high energy efficiency, RISC CPUs are known to be widely used in mobile devices but are now increasingly finding their way into data centres.
Two server variants at launch
For the product launch, IONOS is offering two options that differ in terms of RAM and storage space (NVMe).
CPU | RAM | Storage | Price | |
ARM96-128 | 96 Cores | 128 GB | 2 x 1920 GB NVMe | 234 GBP |
ARM96-256 | 96 Cores | 256 GB | 2 x 3840 GB NVMe | 293 GBP |
