IONOS introduces additional cost-effective CPU option for its IaaS Compute Engine

IONOS has introduced an additional CPU option for its Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Compute Engine. SMEs can now select vCPU server instances in their virtual data centres.

London, 29th August 2023.

IONOS has introduced an additional CPU option for its Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Compute Engine. SMEs can now select vCPU server instances in their virtual data centres.

The new IONOS vCPU complements the high-performance ‘Dedicated Core’ instances, which were previously the only option. Both variants are configurable in terms of the number of vCPU/cores and RAM size. vCPU instances can, however, also be selected in pre-configured packages, varying in size. The price of the new vCPU option is £0.025 / hour (per vCPU) and is billed by the minute. RAM and block storage pricing remains unchanged. Compared to comparable offers from US hyperscalers, the IONOS vCPU is up to 25 per cent cheaper.

“With the introduction of a more cost-effective vCPU, we are increasing the flexibility of choices on offer to SMEs. They can now better configure their virtual data centres to their individual needs,” says Patrick Schaudel, Head of Products at IONOS.

Best price-performance ratio for general workloads

The use of vCPU server instances is particularly suitable for standard workloads. “SMEs benefit from an optimised price-performance ratio. For example, they can operate applications, websites or e-commerce platforms with moderate traffic, cache servers or simple software services cost-effectively,” says Schaudel.

Dedicated cores, on the other hand, are particularly suited for performance-intensive applications and workloads that have high traffic or processing demands. This includes high-performance computing, big data modelling, real-time analytics, ERP systems or high-traffic websites.

vCPU and Dedicated Core can both be deployed in the same virtual data centre. The offer is available immediately in IONOS data centres in Frankfurt/Main, Berlin, Paris, London, Logrono and Las Vegas.
