For customers with Mail Basic and Mail Business email accounts

In this article, we'll show you how to migrate your existing Mail Basic and Mail Business mailboxes to Microsoft Exchange 2019 that you have set up under one domain.

Renaming the Email Addresses

The first step requires you to rename the Mail Basic and Mail Business email addresses in question. For this purpose, simply add anything (such as _old) to the first part of the email address (the part before the @ sign). Example:

john.smith@example.com would become john.smith_old@example.com

This is necessary because one email address cannot be used for multiple email accounts.

You can find instructions on how to change an IONOS email address here:

Setting Up the Email Address for the Microsoft Exchange 2019 Account

The next step is to create the email addresses with the original names in your Microsoft Exchange 2019 contract.
Example:

john.smith@example.com

We show you how to do this in the following article:

Attention

If you rename the email address of a Mail Basic or a Mail Business mailbox, then it will no longer be accessible under the originally created email address. Therefore, make sure that you create a corresponding Microsoft Exchange 2019 account for each mailbox.

After renaming the Mail Basic and Mail Business email addresses in question and then creating the email addresses with the original names in your Microsoft Exchange 2019 contract, move the emails and folders. You can find instructions on how to do this here:

Setting Up Microsoft Exchange 2019 Accounts in Apps

To be able to send and receive emails, you will need to delete the old account settings (for the old Mail Basic or Mail Business accounts) in the respective mail application. Then, set up a new account for your Microsoft Exchange 2019 mailbox in the same app.
