Creating an IONOS email address

Valid for Mail Basic and Mail Business.

This article explains how to create email addresses for your personal domains. Send and receive emails using your own domain. You can use any email program, your smartphone, tablet, or IONOS Webmail.

Requirement

Your package must contain at least one fully configured domain. For further information on this topic, please see the requirements for using a domain with IONOS products.

Please Note

If you use an external mail server for your domain (e.g. Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft 365), you will be unable to create the email address in the IONOS customer account. In this case, the following error message will appear: “An error has occurred. Please try again.”

Create an email address

  • Log in to your IONOS customer account.

  • In the main navigation bar at the top left, click on Menu and then on Email.

  • Optional: If you have several email contracts, select the relevant contract in which you wish to carry out the desired action.

  • On the Email Addresses page, click on Create another mailbox in the top-right corner, and select the desired IONOS email product, for example Mail Basic.

Notes

  • If your contract no longer includes any free (unused) email accounts of the type you require, you will find the Order button on the next page. This will take you to the order page, where you will be informed of the terms and conditions, and can complete your order. You can then proceed right away to set up your email address.

  • The number of available mailboxes is displayed on the Email Addresses page, on the right-hand side in the Portfolio section.

  • Fill in the input fields:

    • In the E-Mail field, enter the name you wish to use for your email address (the part that comes before the @ symbol) and select a domain.

    • Enter your chosen password . The password must meet certain minimum requirements. Please therefore follow the security guidelines.

  • Optional: If you would also like to forward emails to another existing email address, click on Add Forwarding Target. Enter the email address you wish to use as the forwarding destination.

  • Optional: Select your security settings. To do this, tick the relevant checkbox.

    • Protection against viruses: Optionalvirus protection available to order.

    • Protection against data loss: With email archiving, you can digitally archive all your emails automatically and in a legally compliant manner.

  • Click on I agree and save.

Your email account is now being set up and linked to the email address you have chosen. This may take a few minutes.
