Using the Command Prompt in Windows or the Terminal in Linux or on a Mac, you can, for example, test the availability of our email servers using the ping or telnet commands. We’ll show you how to run these commands.

Open the Command Prompt in Windows

Click the Start button, type cmd into the search bar, and press Enter.

Alternatively, you can right-click the Start button (or press Windows Key + X) and select Terminal.

Open Terminal on a Mac

On MacOS, open Terminal from the Applications > Utilities folder.

Alternatively, use Spotlight Search. Just press Command (⌘) + Spacebar, type Terminal, and hit Return.

Open a terminal (shell) on Linux

Depending on which desktop environment (e.g. GNOME, KDE, Xfce) you are using, the terminal is launched in a different way. You can find out how to launch the terminal here, for example.
