In addition to the free version, the Discord bot is also available in two different premium packages—one for small to mid-sized servers and one for large servers. Premium features include, among other things:

  • Anti-Raid & advanced protection features: Automatic protection against mass joins, spam waves, and raid attacks.
  • ‘Voice Online’ indicator & advanced online stats: Continuously shows how many users are currently in a voice channel; useful for community servers and events.
  • Custom bot: With your own name, avatar, and status; ideal for large servers that want a personalised bot presence.

With a paid subscription, users gain access to additional features, such as:

Games, fun & community engagement

Community Hubs, helping you broaden your horizons

Community Hubs is a Discord bot that lets you create so-called ‘hubs’ within a server. You can create, manage, or hide hubs using commands like !hub create. They serve as central points of exchange and connect selected channels so content is visible in both areas at the same time. The bot is ideal for gaming communities, but it can also be used in business environments—for example, to set up topic-specific workspaces.

Note

Discord now has its own channel-linking features, so you don’t necessarily have to rely on Discord bots like Community Hubs.

Tatsu, looking after a virtual pet

Tatsu is a Discord bot that goes far beyond basic moderation and is especially well-suited if you want to increase how long people stick around and engage in a community. With the built-in minigame ‘Tatsugotchi’, users collect over 100 different virtual pets, and care for, train, and customise them. There’s also an economy system with over 1,000 pieces of furniture for decorating a virtual home, plus level and rank systems as well as server-wide and global currencies. According to official information, Tatsu is already used on more than 1.4 million Discord servers.

Dank Memer is a popular Discord bot for entertainment and community interaction. In addition to classic meme and image commands, it offers a comprehensive economy and gaming system where users can earn coins, collect items, trade, or own pets. Minigames, competitions, and social features provide long-term motivation and make the bot a mix of meme generator and game platform within Discord.

TriviaBot, turning your channel into a quiz show

TriviaBot turns your Discord server into an interactive quiz show with tens of thousands of questions across different categories. You can play solo or as a team, start public rounds, and track the competition via leaderboards. You can submit your own questions to personalise the quiz. A web dashboard lets you control game modes, round length, and settings. This makes TriviaBot a great fit for casual game nights as well as regularly organised quiz events and community challenges.

With a monthly or annual subscription, or with a lifetime license, you can unlock additional questions, advanced game modes, and customised themes.

UnbelievaBoat, managing virtual currency on your server

With UnbelievaBoat, you can build your own economy system on Discord. Members can earn and spend a virtual currency and use it in shops. The Discord bot is often used to organise reward systems, competitions, or community activities. Thanks to role rewards, daily earnings, and admin controls, UnbelievaBoat is especially well-suited for motivating active members.

The paid premium subscription unlocks, among other things, more items (5,000 instead of 25) as well as the bot’s style customisation.

GiveawayBot, running giveaways automatically

GiveawayBot makes it easier to run giveaways on Discord. You can set prizes, duration, and entry requirements, and the Discord bot automatically selects a winner when the giveaway ends. This makes GiveawayBot ideal for community events, promotions, or simple thank-you campaigns for active members.

Music & audio

FredBoat, playing music without the hassle

FredBoat is a straightforward Discord bot for music that lets you play music and live streams from SoundCloud, Bandcamp, JioSaavn, Dailymotion, or Twitch directly in your voice channels. Songs or playlists can be added easily via command and controlled together. The bot is valued for its reliability and is particularly popular with small to mid-sized communities that want to enjoy music without extensive setup.

With the Premium package for one, two, three, or five servers, you can, for example, increase the number of playlists you can create or the number of tracks you can add per playlist.

Blerp, bringing a digital soundboard to your server

Blerp is a popular soundboard Discord bot that lets you play sound effects, memes, and short audio clips directly in a voice channel. Using simple commands, you can search for the right sounds or play saved favourites. You can also create your own soundboards and manage clips, making Blerp a great fit for gaming servers, streams, and casual community chats.

AI & creative tools

Midjourney Bot, generating AI images directly from Discord

The Midjourney Bot is one of the best-known AI generators for images and artwork on Discord. Users can create images in various styles using text input (a prompt)—from realistic portraits to imaginative illustrations. This Discord bot is especially popular in creative communities and is often used for design ideas, art projects, or simply experimenting with AI. The bot was originally free to use, but a subscription is now required:

  • Basic: 3.3 hours of GPU compute time per month; this lets you generate about 200 images
  • Standard: 15 hours per month, which is enough for about 900 images per month
  • Pro: 30 hours of compute power per month, which lets you create around 1,800 images
  • Mega: 60 hours of GPU time per month, which is equivalent to about 3,600 images

How do you install Discord bots?

In short, there’s a wide variety of Discord bots to choose from, and you can even create your own Discord bot. But how do you add one to your own channel?

Fortunately, it’s very straightforward. On the bot’s website, you’ll usually find a button to add or install it. After clicking it, sign in to Discord and choose the server where you want to use the bot. Finally, click ‘Authorize’, and the bot will be ready to use via its shortcuts.

Make sure to place the bot’s role correctly in the role list so it can perform its tasks. Many modern bots are controlled via slash commands (/) or configured through an external web dashboard. If a Discord bot isn’t responding, it’s worth checking roles, permissions, and its online status.

Data privacy when using Discord bots

When using Discord bots, you should also keep data privacy in mind, especially with regard to the GDPR. Many bots process personal data such as

  • usernames,
  • message content,
  • user IDs
  • or IP-related information.

Before installing a bot, you should check where it is hosted, which data it stores, and whether a privacy policy is provided. It’s also best practice to use only the bots you really need and to assign permissions as restrictively as possible. If data is processed outside the EU, additional scrutiny may be necessary. For public servers, it’s also recommended to make bot usage transparent, for example by mentioning it in the server rules or linking to a dedicated privacy policy.
