How to display calendar weeks in Outlook

Numbering calendar weeks is normal within a business context, based on a 52-week year. The e-mail program Outlook also displays numbered calendar weeks if required. However, the corresponding function is deactivated in the default setting.

We will show you how to display calendar weeks in Outlook so that you have a better overview of the calendar year.

The respective calendar week is displayed in the month view to the left of the Outlook calendar.

Note

The step-by-step instructions shown are intended for users of Outlook versions 2010, 2013, 2016, or 2019. If you are using an older Outlook version, the following click path will take you to the desired function: Tools Options > Calendar Options > Settings > Calendar Options

Display calendar week: Outlook on the web

To display week numbers in the Outlook on the web calendar, follow these steps.

Step 1: Open Outlook on the web in a web browser of your choice and open your calendar.

Step 2: Click the cog in the menu bar.

Step 3: Click on the menu item “Calendar appearance.”

Step 4: Tick “Show week numbers in Month view.”

Step 5: Save the change by clicking “OK.”

The monthly view of your calendar will now be displayed with the week numbering.

Note

Note that the numbering of the weeks of a calendar year is defined differently internationally: In the USA, the week of the calendar year is the first week in which January 1 falls, but in Europe the first calendar week is counted as the week that contains at least four days of the new year. So if January 1st is on a Friday, the first calendar year of that year will be in the next week. In the Outlook calendar settings, you can adjust the start of the first week in the “Working hours” section according to your individual wishes.
